JUST BEFORE YOU CROSS THE LINE
Year 8 girls, we have come along way and are almost at the end of our journey in grade eight. Before we move on to our next destination, year 9, let's just stop and look back to see what we have learnt on our way, the difficulties we faced, how we overcame them and how we are going to prepare for our big day. Tell me about you achievements, what you feel confident about and also what you still need to work on. Let's face this together girls and with each other's support we will all make it !
I have achieved Diary writing, Informal Letter writing, Report writing and Character Analysis
ReplyDeleteI am confident in Diary writing, Informal Letter writing and Report writing. I also believe that Time management hasn’t been an issue so far and hopefully won’t ever be in the future.
I fell hesitant when it comes to Character Analysis despite knowing the concepts included in it, my issue is about how I structure the points and where I would put them. I would also like to point out how I don’t feel confident on how I try to incorporate similes, metaphors and possibly personification in my writing so I hopefully fulfill it in time.

In the past terms, I have achieved the format of various writings such as diary writing, letter writing and character analysis. I am able to identify the differences between a character sketch and a character analysis.

During the past few terms i have learned many different techniques of english writing. Our classes were very interesting as our classes were based on various pieces of english literature. During the past terms we have had lessons based on Louis Sachar's novel, Holes, Shakespeare's famous but tragic play, Macbeth and last but definately not least Mary Shelley's best selling novel, Frankenstein. What i found challenging was the character analysis as i had not done one in such detail before but i now am confident with the structure and method. I would like to thank Miss Debbie for helping me bring my levels higher by telling me about my weak points and how i could improve.

This year I've achieved a good understanding of all the writing tasks espicially letter and diary writing. I've also achieved a range of good vocabualry and a lot of good writing skills. I've really enjoyed the lessons and learned alot from them. Sometimes I'm still hesitant on report writing and character analysis even though I know the concepts and formats . Thank you Ms.Debbie for helping me achieve higher levels and I hope to improve and achieve my goals for the term 3 and ahead assesments!

I am confident in my report writing and diary entry and their structures. I am a bit hesitant about character analysis and descriptive writing. Thank you for a wonderful year in English Miss Debbie. Throughout the academic year, I have gained knowledge about countless pieces of writings. I fully understand the concept of the structure of informal letter writing, newspaper reports, diary writing and character analysis. Not only do I know how to produce these pieces of works, I can use the write language and form of personalization in the (example;) letter writing. I have accomplished how to stick to the word limit and how to make a successful informal letter to an acquaintance or a family member. I am confident about formatting the letter writing, newspaper report and the amount of adjectives in my work. I am unsure about the excessive use of descriptive writing in newspaper reports, how to structure personalization in letter writing and completing a new task during a given time limit. I will overcome these barriers by asking my friends to assist me on this, inquire about descriptive writing from Ms. Debbie and read the feedback from my past writing tasks. Not only this, however, furthermore, I will test myself on time limit by achieving small writings at home.

This term, I have been able to understand the structures and features of different pieces of writing; and cleared my doubts that I had in the previous years. I am confident with letter, article and diary writing as well as using a wide range of vocabulary. Thanks to the numerous fun starters we have had in class, I have developed my imagination enabling me to use more personalization, imagery etc.
ReplyDeleteI am unsure about the different sentence structures we should use to make our work more effective. I am currently focusing on time management and adhering to the word limit, although I have improved these quite significantly.

ReplyDeleteI am confident in Letter Writing and Diary Writing,However I still need to work on my Report Writing and Character Analysis as I am not very confident about them. Hopefully by the end of next year I look forward to have these two as my strengths when it comes to writing.

ReplyDeleteI have acheived copious new techniques that I can use in my work, such as better forms of writing, sentence structure, and how in each topic we should put the paragraphs. I have confidence in my work,and I have the confidence to do it better. The topic I'm hesitant on would have to be 'Letter Writing' it is easy but I dont know how to use the time factor well in it. Everything else I'm quite happy with. I hope that you will soon be able to teach us again, and that it will be as fun and exciting as this year has been.

I am slightly doubtful about my letter writing skills and I could earn a better usage of strong vocabulary but other than that I have great confidence about the upcoming English assessment.

ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, before I start my entry, a deep, hearty thanks to Mrs. Debbie for all the support you have given me and my friends to this day, ever since we got into the mixed class at the start of second term. I am sure that you are the only teacher who is so open and willing to help us at any time- obviously, since you gave us your email, and also your personal number. Thank you again, Mrs. Debbie!
This term and the past have been very useful, informative and most of all, educational. The amount of immense hard work that goes into preparing these lessons is surely unimaginable by us students, but the output- what we have achieved through this hard work- is the prize. Here is what I believe I have achieved throughout the past two terms:
Higher levels
Confidence and satisfaction with my work
Greater liking towards writing
Improved vocabulary
Better sentence structures
Confidence in a particular subject of writing comes with practice. Did you, by any chance think – only practice? Not if you are a student of Mrs. Debbie- not a chance. Confidence also comes from how clearly we have understood an aspect, and Mrs. Debbie surely makes it as clear as crystal for us. I am thorough and confident in the below mentioned topics- all the concepts and aspects are clear to me and so I would not be facing any problems with these topics:
Diary writing
Letter writing
Character Analysis
I am hesitant in only one topic- the one and only Newspaper Report writing. The main content, organizing “what to put where”, and the entire structure- I have interpreted and grasped every necessary aspect in Newspaper Report writing. BUT the reason as to why I am not very confident about report writing is that, if I am not in the mood to write a report, I won’t get any of the factual/serious vocabulary to write. I need to work on using factual vocabulary more often so that I am not stuck when I’m expected to write a newspaper report. Basically, I get stranded in the middle of nowhere and usually do satisfactory if I am not in a state to write a report. I reckon I need to work on both figurative language and word limit. Somehow (with Mrs. Debbie’s idea), I managed to get the “time management” in control. Thank you, Mrs. Debbie!
Once again, thank you very, very much, awesome Mrs. Debbie for all the encouragement, motivation, support and kindness you have offered us- REALLY, REALLY HOPE(and pray) TO HAVE YOU NEXT YEAR AS WELL…
Just one thing I wish to add before saying bye: since the time I first read ‘nowhere’ I thought- “Why is it considered as only No-Where and not Now-Here?” Quite pointless, but I was reminded of it when I typed down the word in the fourth Paragraph.

ReplyDeleteI have tremendously improved in English In this academic year (2011-2012) and have achieved a wide new range of vocabulary, different writing skills and learned how to create complex sentences. For my final exams, I am confident in diary writing, informal letter writing and newspaper report writing. I am hesitant when it comes to Character analysis and time management. I would make it a point that I will be confident enough in character analysis before my year end exams and will work hard to improve my time management skills.
